Da Vinci - The Exhibition | The Nerd Nest

Last weekend Jake and I took Eliza to Da Vinci: The Exhibition, a traveling exhibit at Union Station.

It was a wonderful testament to Da Vinci’s genius, with exhibits separated into different areas of study: flight, physics, architecture and city planning, exploration, music, warfare, anatomy, and fine art.

Plaza Art Fair 2015 | The Nerd Nest

One of the coolest annual events in Kansas City is the Plaza Art Fair, when nine blocks get shut down for tents packed full of amazing artists, good eats, and stages of live music. Also, it’s free, which is mind-blowing to me.

The 2015 Fair was a few weeks ago, … Continue

Austin Street Art | The Nerd Nest

I recently went on a trip to Austin with my little brother and my (ex? first?) step-mom. It was a short trip, but we experienced as much Austin as is humanly possible in a day and a half.

Mostly by walking around a lot.

My favorite thing to do in … Continue

Maker Faire 2015 | The Nerd Nest

One of our favorite events each year is Kansas City’s Maker Faire. It is basically nerd Christmas: artists, tech gurus, inventors, and makers of all kinds to share their passions. Here are a few highlights from this year’s event!

Passport to India | The Nerd Nest 1

It’s a good thing I follow The Nelson on Instagram! They posted about their Passport to India cultural festival and I knew our family had to go. We scooped up all the kids and went to this awesome adventure with Beth and my nephew Nathan.

Planet Comicon | The Nerd Nest 1

We recently attended what’s become one of our favorite nerd adventures of the year: Planet Comicon. This year was extra exhausting with three kids (our foster baby LOVED all of the stimulation), but it was so worth it.

Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art | Louise Bourgeois | The Nerd Nest

Spider by Louise Bourgeois

Kansas City is filled with wonderful museums. When my out-of-town friends visited recently, they requested we add the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art to the itinerary. I was happy to oblige: I love this museum because special exhibits keep visits fresh, there is an emphasis on … Continue

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Kansas City

My friends from Denver came for a surprise visit last weekend, and a visit to Kansas City isn’t complete without taking in the arts (and eating a lot of amazing food). We braved the numbing February weather and spent some time in the Nelson-Atkins Sculpture Park.

I probably have about … Continue

Denver Museum of Nature and Science | The Nerd Nest 1

As a family, science and art museums are kind of our thing, so of course when my friend Jessica suggested we visit the Denver Museum of Nature and Science while we were visiting her a few weeks ago, we were all in. We even landed the visit on Jonas’s birthday.… Continue

Christmas Morning Scavenger Hunt | The Nerd Nest 5

For the third year running, the highlight of Christmas morning around here was a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt thing started in 2012 as a way to make the big present (the Harry Potter movies) more exciting. Jake and I came up with Harry Potter trivia clues that had Eliza … Continue
