I’m working on projects with my Freckled Fawn November embellishment kit and one of the ideas I had for the kit, which has a lot of house icons, was to document “a day at home.” I looked through my backlog of my monthly Day in the Life photos to see if any were homebody days and found that the story from last November’s Day in the Life would work perfectly!
Here’s November 17, 2016:
- Freckled Fawn November embellishment kit: enamel stickers, label stickers, puffy house stickers, rubber houses, banner phrase stickers, and November wood chip
- Freckled Fawn November 12×12 papers
- Freckled Fawn November journaling cards
- American Crafts Zap Embossing Heat Gun
- Ranger Super Fine Clear Embossing Powder
- Tsukineko 4-Pack Brilliance Dew Drop Inkpads, Planetarium
- Ali Edwards precision pen and Story Kit embossed circles add-on
- Becky Higgins Design A pocket pages
Going on here: Ava getting REALLY excited Lily is snuggling her, cleaning up Eliza’s room + the third floor hallway, Jake video chatting with his dad at his at-home desk.
I decided to make the November word chip from the kit stand out by heat embossing it. I added copper ink, tapped on clear embossing powder, and heat set the powder with a Zap embossing heat gun. Heat embossing is a little messy and time consuming, so I don’t break it out often, but the shine and raised image really does make an impact!
For the rest of the title card, I used “a lovely day” patterned paper for the background and a strip of dark blue so the title would stand out. I framed the word November in two puffy house stickers and added a banner phrase sticker to the upper left corner.
I filled in all of the 3×4 spaces without photos with November journaling cards, giving myself space for journaling on some of the filler cards. I added an Ali Edwards Story Kit embossed circle add-on to one card for journaling and a label sticker (plus a rubber house) to another for the date.
To add a bit of fun to the circles filler card, I put enamel stickers on some of the circles. It’s fun to use embellishments that go with a patterned paper to give some spots on the pattern dimension. I also added a banner phrase sticker and label sticker to the corner.
Adding a banner phrase sticker to the center of a collage always works for me. I repeated this look on the other page, which also helped to give me a visual triangle of white banner stickers.
Going on here: The kids playing with friends in the backyard after the big kids got home from school, chatting with Kelly (who stopped by on her way home from work), Jonas drawing while I was making dinner, practicing a Smooth Criminal routine for Eliza’s hip hop class, reading books, putting together puzzles, sitting down for dinner, and the usual playing around shenanigans.
I just love these photos so much.
I’m so glad to have this one in the books! Starting with ideas from products helps me to fill in the gaps in my album without getting stressed out about being “behind.”
I’m off to finish recording my last Day in the Life for 2017–I’m doing them on the 1st this year. I need to use a random number generator soon to see what day I’ll be doing it monthly in 2018!
