July’s Nerd Nest Challenge is Repeat a Shape and I have one more take to share with you!
This time I decided to repeat circles in a pocket layout and a traditional page 8.5 x 11 insert to bring the whole spread together.
For this page, I started with an idea for an insert and built the rest of the page off of that.
I love switching up my starting point from time to time to stretch my creativity.
Going on here: Dr. King mural near my car inspection location, errands, swimming with Tiny and family, enjoying the weather, my garden, and nature.
I used journaling cards with circles on them for this page and added a sun embellishment to continue my shape motif. I also kept the circles in my photos in mind as I chose the placement for and sizes of the photos in the layout!
Going on here: A food crawl fundraiser, which featured the local businesses near the gym where my brother is an athletic trainer. I had a lot of fun sampling the locations with my stepmom and sister-in-law!
For my food crawl insert, I repeated circles on the journaling page–pearl stickers, a circle geotag diecut, and a passport stamp circle pattern on the journaling card–and made circle photos the foundation of my 8.5 x 11 layout.
I used a 6×8 page protector for the program from the event. I used the back to add journaling for the 8.5 x 11 page. I used washi tape to connect two 4×6 cards.
I made this hybrid layout in Photoshop by using a clipping mask to create circle photos, adding a light grey stroke around each photo, and creating a solid colored rectangle for the background with an added sponge effect.
Once I had this printed, I adhered older wood veneer arrows from my stash between each photo to show the “path” of the food crawl. Then I wrote the name of each business around the photo.
I wrote the names of the businesses I missed in my photos on the top and bottom and finished it off with a border of doodled pluses.
I really love how this turned out.
I’m going to make another 8.5×11 page to go here, covering my sister’s birthday party, but I’m saving it for later. There’s nothing wrong with leaving blank spaces to come back to!
Going on here: Cat snuggles, Tiny loves looking through scrapbooks, the drop off / pick up routine for the kids’ summer school, which started during this week, getting car tags renewed, Jake teaching Jonas some drawing tips, all of the kids’ dance classes (Tiny had her first one during this week), Jonas looses a tooth, a bit too much going out to eat because there wasn’t room for grocery shopping or cooking this week (I had to take Jake to work / pick him up almost every day).
I didn’t do much embellishing on this side, but using a journaling card with a circle helped to tie this page in with the rest of the spread. I wrapped some of my journaling around the circle on the card and filled the circle with the rest of the journaling.
