It’s reveal day for the June 2017 Freckled Fawn kit! I wanted to share one of the projects I’ve made so far with the kit.
This kit has a color palette perfect for sunny days and beach / pool time.
After reading all of the beach phrases on the chipboard phrase stickers, I knew right away I wanted to make a page about taking the kids to a beach for the first time last summer.
I’ve been saving the Pursuit paper from Amy Tangerine’s Finders Keepers line for a beach project.
I decided to put the two together to make a 1 1/2 page spread. I used the paper for inspiration, getting in tons of small 1.5 inch photos in the squares on the pattern and using two 3 inch photos to break up the pattern a bit. (Click on the photo for an enlarged view.)
I started off just doing a 12×12, but liked how it looked without journaling (it’s busy enough!), so I made a 6×12 companion page to go with it. I added some more of the Pursuit paper to the edge and used Magnify paper from the same line for journaling. I’m going to use the other side of the Magnify paper to go with a pocket page highlighting the rest of this vacation.
There are 23 photos on this page overall! The tiny size of most of the photos works really well, because most of these were taken with a GoPro and weren’t the highest quality. It also helped me include details of what the town of Port Aransas looks like as well as an overview of the things we did at the beach.
Because the paper is so busy, I wanted to be very intentional about how I used the embellishments so that they’d help move the eye around the page and highlight important parts instead of adding more clutter.
I used washi stickers to frame the title and to the bottom of the journaling space, then added pearl stickers to fill in the empty spaces around the word “Port” in the title. I also added a washi “Pretty Much Perfect” sticker to the top right corner. I backed it with white cardstock, cut it out, then glued it on so that it would be visible above the pattern.
I added phrase stickers throughout the spread (seven–it’s always good to stick with an odd number) and added two pearls near each phrase.
And to finish it off, the “summer vibes” acrylic phrase fit perfectly over one of the bigger photos!
I had a lot of fun trying a different kind of design for this layout and I’m happy to have this done–I wanted to scrap so many of the photos from this day that I was a little overwhelmed. This was a great solution!
Do you have any beach trips you’d like to document? If not, how would you use these beachy supplies?
