I’m so excited for the March 2017 30 Days of Lists to kick off tomorrow! And I finished my base for the challenge just in time.
You can do anything you like for this challenge–something as simple as writing out lists in a notebook or in a file on your computer or as complicated as a art journal with hand drawn pages for each day. I like to switch it up–when life is really busy I’ve done simple pocket pages and when I’m itching for more creativity, I like to make minibooks.
For this round, I thought that it was an awesome opportunity to try out a traveler’s notebook for the first time!
I kept the cover simple, just adding a #30Lists stamp with StazOn ink to the leather on the outside elastic band.
I’m planning on containing my March and September rounds in here this year. There’s probably not enough room for December, but we’ll see!
I started off with a simple inner cover and title page to differentiate between the different challenges that will be in this book.
I stamped the number of each list on the left side of each spread in the blank notebook in three different ink colors. I started with the lightest color and then moved through the darker ones. I tried to space them out in a way that added balance and stamped some off of the edge of the page to make the pattern look continuous.
When I was finished stamping, I went through my patterned paper stash and found paper that looked good with my ink colors. I started with scraps, then finished off by cutting into a few 12×12 pages.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do this at first–it added a lot of bulk and I didn’t mind much that the ink from the numbers could be seen a bit from the next page, but I didn’t want to worry about what kind of marker I used throughout the challenge and thought it was a good opportunity to do some stash busting.
One notebook insert wasn’t enough for 30 spreads, so I folded back the cover on a second notebook and slipped it inside the back cover of the first notebook.
I then slipped the inner elastic band behind the first page of the second insert so that both inserts would be secured.
I finished off the base by adding number labels to each page for each list title and a journaling card from the Project Life Seafoam Core Kit, alternating between black, yellow, and kraft. I need to bust through those older kits too!
I wasn’t planning on making a base this involved at first, but once I started playing the ideas kept flowing and I ended up with something really cool! That’s one of the things I like best about trying something new.
