It’s reveal day for Freckled Fawn’s January embellishment kit Capture! I am in love with the bright colors of the kit and had so much fun playing with the variety of textures and types of products this month.
I made 4 projects with this month’s kit (so far!) and I’m excited to share them with you!
Above you can see the variety of embellishments in the kit.
This month there’s also a planner kit option if that’s more your style! I think this kit would be great for more than planners, and it’s a great option if the embellishment kit is too much for you.
Here’s how I went about using my kit:
When I saw the large cork numbers, I knew I wanted to make a page with my Jonas at Five check-in list. I already had the journaling written out in the blog post, so I copied and pasted it and printed it out as my page background!
(I actually had to do this twice, as the first time around water smudged the journaling and I accidentally put down a number “4″ instead of a “5.”)
I added some more color with the vellum stickers on the top and bottom of the page–I love that the kit includes two sheets, so you can line up two of the same sticker to go all the way across a page.
Going vertical with Jonas’s name in the felt letters also stretched out the color on the page!
Overall, the page is simple, but I love that the embellishments add fun to the page while still keeping the focus on the photo and words– the perfect amount of festivity for a birthday story.
Still excited about those cork numbers (they are my favorite), I decided to go big with the year and whip up a pocket page with photos from New Year’s Eve last night! We almost always squeeze in for a family selfie right after counting down and kissing each other to ring in the new year.
I stapled each number to a transparent heart and let them float in the 3×4 pockets.
I used the large “YAY” puffy sticker from the December kit, but it wasn’t really packing the punch I wanted. So I used the vellum stickers to burst out around the word to help convey the fun of the mini celebration!
I love it when embellishment can help tell the story.
Next, I browsed through the photos I’d already printed to see if the kit would work for the things I was already planning on making. I knew after I saw my September Reads photos that I wanted to use the orange felt letters with the page, because they went so well with the most colorful book in my stack.
At first I thought I’d spell “September” the felt letters too, but I liked the look of “reads” on this 4×6 card (I like the contrast between the bright orange and the muted orange from the Ali Edwards card). So I decided to handwrite “September” and frame it in the cool rhinestone stickers.
I wanted to include more orange in the top left corner, so another transparent heart did the trick!
Last, I made a page documenting a date Jake and I went on to a Robert DeLong concert–Jake bought us the tickets as an anniversary gift. Lots of the embellishments reminded me of the concert– the arrow vellum sticker reminded me of the face paint, the transparent heart with the squares reminded me of the digital videos going on behind the musicians, and the little shape I made with the wood chip cameras reminded me of the icons on DeLong’s latest album.
I knew that the kit would be great to document the concert! Because the story was more focused on the date element than the concert element (dates are tricky as foster parents), I kept the photos of Jake and I front and center.
It’s easy to color wood chips with ink! Just press your chip down onto the inkpad until completely covered and let it dry!
Bright embellishments and white cardstock are a great compliment to dark photos!
I loved creating with this kit and I still have A LOT for more projects this month!
Like the kit too?
