This week I’m participating in Ali Edward’s Week in the Life. You can read about my plan for this year and how I’ve tackled this project in the past here. For Monday-Thursday, I focused on one of us per day, but yesterday was back to the big picture. Friday was all Halloween.
Jonas and I slept in a bit, then I spent the morning furiously making the kids’ costumes. Yep, that’s the level of procrastination we’re talking about. Things ended up a little wonky, but I think I did pretty well, considering.
Poppy came to pick up Jonas in the afternoon so that I could go to Eliza’s class party (I’m a Room Parent). They went to my nephew’s daycare party. I borrowed his car (mine died).
The party was a lot of fun! There were costumes, snacks, scary books, dancing, and (my favorite) a mummy wrapping contest with toilet paper. Those kids are crazy sauce and I love them.
I ran out of time and didn’t eat lunch before the party, so I was starving after. Eliza and I stopped at Five Guys.
We went out to Poppy’s to pick up Jonas. The kids got to test out the newly built treehouse he made for them. Jonas’s favorite part is the climbing wall (not surprising).
We decided to spend the evening at Jake’s dad’s, because the kids and I were at Poppy’s close by and Jake works near their house. Rita (Jake’s step-mom, aka Abba to the kids) and I talked and got pictures of the kids outside.
They are pretty darn cute. Jonas is Pikachu and Eliza is Blossom (though she lost her tail in transit and was not thrilled that her glasses were the wrong shape).
There were some wardrobe malfunctions while we were out taking pictures, so I made a few quick fixes.
After Jake got there, we went out trick-or-treating. There weren’t very many houses with lights on (we went to a total of 7), but it was super cold and we were ready to go back inside after walking around the block, so that’s okay. Jake’s aunt and uncle live right behind his dad’s, so we got to visit with them a bit too.
Eliza and Jonas really loved handing out candy at the door. Someone even came in on stilts in a ghost costume!
Rita is awesome and made us dinner, and we visited until after 10:00.
The kids fell asleep in the car on the way home. We stopped for gas before going in and calling it a night.
Hope you had a fun Halloween!
