After our day in Philadelphia, Jake and I hopped a train to New Jersey to spend a weekend with Kristin and Jeff. We spent Friday just hanging out together (Kristin and Jeff made us an amazing dinner), but Saturday was all about the New Jersey Shore. We went to Point Pleasant Beach and it was one of the most fun days I’ve ever had.
I’m so thankful we had such good timing with our visit–there was no crazy traffic on the way to the beach, we had it almost to ourselves, and the weather was wonderful! It was very warm for May–in the 80s–but the water was still freezing. But it wasn’t so cold that I couldn’t stand to hop in for a couple of waves! This was so not planned (or I’d have, you know, brought a swimming suit).
I need some spontaneous craziness every once and awhile.
But only a tiny bit of craziness, because no one wants hypothermia. (Also, it turns out you aren’t supposed to swim during off-season. Ooops.)
Jake spent most of his beach time being a camera hog. He was happy to dip his toes in and smell the sea air–which he says smells like soda for some reason.
The beach was gorgeous, but honestly it would have been the best day even just sitting in a white room with Kristin and Jeff. I love them so much, I can’t describe how wonderful just being around them is.
The joy is obvious.
It turns out, Jeff is just as crazy as I am.
We spent the rest of the time sinking our toes in the sand, searching for creatures in tide pools, talking about the deep stuff, and looking for shells, sea glass, and smooth stones for Eliza.
We also spent a little time on the boardwalk until the clouds started to look menacing.
Having this relaxing day together was perfect before our action packed day in New York. Couldn’t have asked for a more awesome day with more awesome people. Thanks, K&J!
