Don't hoard products or stories--use that

Welcome to the bi-weekly Nerd Nest Memory Keeping Challenge!

This round, the challenge is now’s the time. Today is your metaphorical rainy day. Whatever you’ve been saving because it’s too special–stories, photos, products–now’s the time to stop hoarding and start making! Don’t wait for the perfect time. There’s no such thing! The perfect time is now.

Don't hoard products or stories--use that

For my take on the challenge, I went for a trifecta and used special products, a special story, and a special photo. It’s funny that loving things so much keeps me from using them: you’d think the opposite would be true! But instead of letting my excitement encourage me to make memories with special things right away, sometimes I get into a trap of wanting to wait until I can get it just right. That’s not exactly logical and I don’t do it consciously. Because I know there is no perfect and there is no just right. So I jumped right in.

Jake took this photo in Times Square with Kristin and Jeff. The photo is special, because it’s the best photo of the four of us together on the trip. The story is special, because I’m overcome with love for these guys and I find it a little hard to put it into words. The whole trip was special, and I usually have a process with documenting trips that would put making this page at the very end of the long documenting process. The products were also special: the deep blue patterned paper with gold stars (from a sold out Studio Calico kit) and the Gold Punchinella are some of my favorite papers in a long time and I know I can’t get ahold of more.

I made the special stuff count by highlighting the elements the best way I know: I enlarged the photo, I used bits of the paper that highlight the patterns without overwhelming the photo (inspired by this page by Ali Edwards–I’m also working on USING rather than HOARDING the inspiration on my Pinterest boards), and I decided that I didn’t have to be really descriptive with my feelings for the special story to be effective: I just simply wrote about how special it was. (I hope no one is playing a drinking game with the word “special” by this point. I’ll cut it out, sorry.)

Don't hoard products or stories--use that

You don’t have to go for a trifecta like I did, but I hope that this challenge inspires you to use your “saved for a rainy day” stories, photos, or products. The time is now! Make rather than collect and share with us!

Supplies*: Studio Calico kits, Freckled Fawn kits, LemonLush Printables, Wanderlust Printables, Gold Punchinella, Project Life Journaling Pens.
