Day in the Life at the Nerd Nest

Last year I played along with Ali Edward’s Day in the Life monthly and it was one of my favorite projects ever. This year, I’m repeating the project! On the 15th of each month, I’m going to document my everyday life. I chose to do this in the middle of the month this year instead of the end of the month like last year. This way I’ll get different holidays and will have an opportunity to more easily make a day up if I forget all about it. I also like having a set day because I won’t worry about finding a “representative” or “normal” day. Wherever the 15th falls, that’s what I’ll document.

Here’s Saturday, February 15th!

Morning: Jonas got in bed with us in the early morning to snuggle and woke us up a bit after 9:00. We got his Pull Up changed and he tried to do the going on the potty thing (still only about 50/50 with potty training–though he’s good about it in public for some reason). He told me a story about this panda bear, who can fly. Also, his fingernails really need to be cleaned. Ew. We took it easy and got up slowly, snacking a bit because we knew that it would be awhile before we made it to brunch. Jake caught Jonas finishing off the milk… don’t know where he got that from (Jake!). Jonas woke Eliza up, and that resulted in a bit of shrieking. Jonas is the only morning person among us. While we waited for Eliza to finish getting ready to go, Jake and I flipped through the latest HGTV Magazine, which I picked up just for this. He doesn’t love looking through home decor stuff for the most part, but telling me what he likes / doesn’t like makes visualizing our home projects for the year much easier. And we’re all for getting on the same page. We then went to The City Diner for brunch (brunch is our favorite). The funny look on Eliza’s face was due to the weird out-of-nowhere snow. It was like little bouncy pebbles.

Afternoon: After brunch, we went over to the City Market. We’re picking back up on weekly farmer’s market visits after a winter hiatus. It was cold outside, but most of the vendors were inside a covered and heated section. Jake kept the kids entertained while I bought things. He wasn’t too happy with the cost of my meat purchases, for the record. It’ll be worth it, Jake, I promise. I picked up a bunch of spices, huge eggs, Fuji apples, yellow onions, apple brats, chicken, and a very large brisket. Then we stopped into my favorite coffee shop in Kansas City, City Market Coffee, to warm up. Chasing Jonas all around was exhausting, so we took a break to watch animated shorts on Vimeo when we got home. Then we watched an episode of Doctor Who while I started a DIY project that fell through. I thought it would be a funny fix to give our cat scratched couch “elbow pads.” I didn’t love the effect, and I’m moving on to Plan B. Then I got hit with a sudden wall of sleepiness and read Roots in bed for a bit whilst snuggling the cat. Everyone else took a nap.

Evening: Jake’s sister Savannah stopped by to visit and we met her boyfriend for the first time. There was a crazy dance party involved, which is what we do when the kids have a little too much energy. They didn’t want her to leave; they grabbed onto her legs and wouldn’t let go. We ate leftovers for dinner (not together, just as each person got hungry) and Jonas and I read books. He’s “reading” me Brown Bear now. Then my sister Taylor and her boyfriend came over to show off sonogram pictures (it’s a girl!). My mom, who is staying with us, took over the kids for us and we went to a concert. We were 20 minutes late, which ended up being an hour early. So we got to sit around and talk about weird things for a long time, which was really nice. FACEFACE, our friend Paul’s hip hop duo with RLT, played and they are freaking amazing. The venue was super freaky: it was a loft with basically a haunted house built around the perimeter. We ducked out earlyish like the old married people we are and snuggled up for bed after coming home to a nice, quiet house.

That’s a day in the life at the Nerd Nest!
