Holiday Album 2013 | December 17-24 by Megan Anderson at the Nerd Nest

To document the holidays, I used my photo and journaling prompts from Daily Doc | Holiday Edition to document each day, inspired by Ali Edwards’s December Daily.

Once the holiday parties started rolling in, there was no time to scrapbook every day. That’s life! But as long as the photos and words were recorded, it didn’t really matter when they got displayed with pretty products. To work in a big batch for these days, I edited, printed, and slipped in photos one day, and then added embellishments and journaling on another day. Here’s what the album looks like from the 17th through Christmas Eve!

For the days that didn’t have as much going on, I went for documenting little stories with photos of holiday items in my house. I had some great non-holiday photos that I could have used on the 17th, but decided that I really wanted to record a cute thing Jonas said instead. I didn’t have an accompanying photo, and while there’s nothing wrong with pages without photos, I opted for taking a representative photo the next day. This one is for prompt #6 in Daily Doc | Holiday Edition.

The journaling reads:

“Poppy brought over presents to put under the tree, & it was driving Jonas crazy that it wasn’t time to open them yet. Jonas asked, ‘It’s not snowing outside! How do we make it snow? When it snows, it’s Christmas, and we can open presents!’ Love toddler logic.”

For prompt #18, I took a photos of our stockings lining the chimney with care and recorded another cute Christmas notion of Jonas’s.

The journaling reads:

“Jonas keeps asking why Santa hasn’t put candy in “the socks” yet.”

For prompt #7, I documented Eliza’s school party. I kept it simple, as I’m going to be documenting the party more in-depth in Project Life. Eliza’s classmates are a big part of her life, so I want to jump at the opportunity to get their faces in the books.

The journaling reads:

“Today was Eliza’s school party. It was so very fun!”

I used prompt #34 (again) to document going to see a friends’ band, The Sexy Accident. I have no problem with using the same prompts multiple times, it just means that that a certain holiday theme is really prevalent! For me, music (holiday and otherwise) was a huge part of December.

The journaling reads:

“Paul & I went to see Jessie’s band “The Sexy Accident” @ the Coda (Jake was sick). Love the band-the music is sure to get you moving!”

I decided to start doing double pages on the busier days so I could fit in more photos. We got so many great ones at the annual Anderson holiday party. These pages are a combination of prompt #7 (there will be a lot of that one) and prompt #39.

The journaling reads:

“Today we went to the huge Anderson family Christmas party. We also celebrated Grandma’s birthday! The little cousins ran around & had a blast & Santa even came!”

The journaling reads:

“The weather outside was frightful, but the party was delightful.”

On the 22nd, I was really sick, but I had energy enough to lift up my iPhone to catch a photo of the book I was reading.

The journaling reads:

“I was out for the day with the stomach flu & stayed in bed reading The Lord of the Rings & watching Project Runway. The Kiekel party was canceled!”

This is an interesting thing to record, because I’m usually reading Harry Potter this time of year. Looks like I still like the comfort of fantasy when things get really busy or I’m not feeling well.

After being sick and before the craziness of Christmas Eve, I took a break from all things Christmas, including the prompts. I went for the mundane everyday stuff instead. There are no rules!

The journaling reads:

“Today the kids & I hung out @ home. Ava came over! We did art projects, built things (loved E’s giraffe). Then I re-arranged my room.”

I decided to use two pages for Christmas Eve as well, and I decided to tell two different stories about the 24th.

For prompt #35, I documented playing with a game Jake and the kids opened early during our unexpected calm day.

The journaling reads:

“The parties @ my Dad’s & w/ the Byers were canceled b/c of stomach flu… so we opened a toy early and played.”

The journaling reads:

For prompt #15, I included our traditional full-family photo in front of the tree with Jake’s Dad’s side of the family. I love these photos every year.

“Traditional Anderson Family Christmas Eve photo!”

I love this project so much, and 2013 is by far my favorite December Daily album ever. In part (weirdly) because I didn’t try to use Christmas products.

I just need to add in a page about how we spent New Year’s and I’ll be ready to share the next installment! (My album is running from Thanksgiving to New Year’s.)

If you’re doing December Daily or a Holiday Album, where are you with the process? Remember that there’s no race to finish! Last year I finished in July, and I actually finished my 2009 album in 2012 (after I realized it was silly that I was hung up on missing days). Finish at your own pace, and change what isn’t working for you or what’s holding you back.
