Last year I played along with Ali Edward’s Day in the Life monthly and it was one of my favorite projects ever. This year, I’m repeating the project! On the 15th of each month, I’m going to document my everyday life. I chose to do this in the middle of the month this year instead of the end of the month like last year. This way I’ll get different holidays and will have an opportunity to more easily make a day up if I forget all about it. I also like having a set day because I won’t worry about finding a “representative” or “normal” day. Wherever the 15th falls, that’s what I’ll document.
Here’s January 15th!
Morning: I woke up to Jonas smooshed between Jake and I. He’s been climbing into bed with us to snuggle in the early morning lately, which is pretty adorable. Jake and I take turns with who gets to stay and snuggle Jonas and who gets to help Eliza get ready, and this morning I was on Eliza duty. I called softly to her upstairs and grabbed her a uniform while she brushed her teeth. I brushed her hair while she waited for the bus all wrapped up in a blanket. Jake and Jonas came down for cereal and I made coffee.
Jonas and I watched some Jake and the Neverland Pirates together while I drank coffee and read blogs. We’re not morning people. We take the first hour super slow. Then I deep cleaned the bathrooms (Jonas “helped”), Jonas and I both took baths, and then we played with cars and ramps.
Afternoon: After lunch, Jonas and I walked to a bookstore around the corner to pick up The Book Thief for my first book club read. Then we coffee and hot chocolate at The Filling Station before walked back home. He’s rocking with the potty training, finally. Jonas took a nap, I did yoga, and Poppy (my grandpa) came over. We talked for awhile, then Eliza came home and told us about her day / showed off her Kiwi Crates. Jonas and I read a million books while Eliza did her math homework, then my sister swung by for a bit (but opted out of getting photographed).
Evening: Eliza and Jonas played a game from her Kiwi Crate while I read a bit from The Return of the King. Then our friend Paul stopped by and hung out for a bit. Jake picked up a few groceries on the way home, and I made tequila lime chicken without tequila. Eliza read while I cooked and Jonas ran circles around the house very noisily. Paul went to play basketball with my mom’s boyfriend Ken, and the four of us had dinner but made plates for my mom, Paul, and Ken. During dinner, Eliza was asking some questions about how we know things about pre-history (before written history), so I busted out my Anthropology textbook and read her the first chapter after we cleaned up. She got really interested in Pompeii, so Jake pulled up some Smithsonian videos on it for all of us to watch. She fell asleep towards the end, and Jake put Jonas and Eliza to bed. Then Jake and I watched some more history stuff and went to bed ourselves, though I read a bunch first.
That’s a day in the life at the Nerd Nest!
