Week 44: October 28 – November 2

Left Side: Jake’s birthday and getting ready for Halloween.
I love this photo of kids piled on Jake on his birthday. I was watching my friends’ baby Ava during the day and we watched our niece Avery at night (it’s Jake’s brother’s birthday too), so there was a little overlap and ALL of the kids flocked to Jake.
Insert, Front: Documenting our very nerdy Halloween! This year I’ve been doing Day in the Life, a concept inspired by Ali Edwards, and I’ve been using Ali’s Day in the Life Template Set all year. Because my Day in the Life fell on Halloween, I decided to switch it up and use Studio Calico cards and Kelly Purkey label stickers instead of the digital word template.
I also decided to focus on the mini stories that mattered to me from Halloween rather than sort of listing what we did throughout the day, which is my usual approach.
Insert, Back: The rest of the Day in the Life photos! There’s photos from Eliza’s class party (I’m a room parent), which included a TP wrapping mummy contest. That was ridiculously fun. Then our evening in costume, chili dinner with Paul, and Eliza rolling in glee in all. of. the. candy.
I don’t usually add text into the photo collages I make for Day in the Life, but the white space in between the rows was an excellent way to fit in more story, because I got fewer words in on the front with handwritten rather than typed text.
Right Side: Weekend stuff. Eliza playing with her friend at his house (we’ve finally made fellow parent friends!), Jonas being his adorable self, hanging out with my mom, our friend Paul fixing me dinner while I was sick (have I mentioned he’s the best?), the kids coming home from spending the night with their grandparents, and a Jake + Megan date to the Nelson.
I wanted to include more photos without adding in more inserts, so I decided to boil the stories down to their most simple, descriptive form.
Tip: Adding label stickers to the negative space in photos is a great way to squeeze in more words.
Tip: Include your feet in a photo to really show that the picture is from your perspective.
This week was pretty crazy with Jake’s birthday, Halloween, and a full weekend!!! How do you tackle weeks with holidays or lots of events?
