For my version of Ali Edwards’s December Daily this year, I started on November 24 so I could capture the week before December and how we celebrate Thanksgiving too. Because I’m using my photo and journaling prompts from Daily Doc | Holiday Edition to document the holidays, the extra days mean that I get to use more of the 40 prompts, too! For those of you following along with Daily Doc, this is my take on prompt 27.
I was intending on just sticking with documenting the last bits of Autumn this week, but sometimes the stories find you. I found this ornament my late grandmother made just as Eliza and I were about to start working on our Ornament a Day project and was filled with warmth and memories. So I took a photo of it in the soft yellow light of Christmas lights.
The journaling reads:
“I was so happy to find this ornament Grammy made. It is so her style: cute characters, dots on letters, layered wood shapes, careful paint, country style. It was heart warming to find this just as E and I were about to start our ornament-a-day project. It makes me feel like home and making ornaments helps us remember her.
Documenting an object like this can help you remember those who can’t be around for the holidays, which can help memorialize loved ones who have died or can help you to include a person who is far away due to deployment, work, school, etc.
To take the pressure off and give me plenty of time to complete each layout and photograph it in daylight, I’m sharing a day in this album every afternoon through the end of the year, two days after the day I document! To tune into the daily documenting with photos and words, follow me on Instagram, Twitter, or Flickr.
