The challenge at Document Life Workshop this week is to Get Inspired by a Magazine Cover, and because I’m working on my December Daily I found some great inspiration for my title page!
I used the May 2013 edition of Wired magazine as inspiration for the title page. I love the white-on-white background and title and the placement of the simple list.
I listed the Daily Doc | Holiday Edition prompt titles on the page with my typewriter. I love that this is both something I can refer back to and a hint of what’s to come in the book. I added my favorite Kelly Purkey White Letter Stickers for the title–I went with “Happy Holidays 2013” instead of “December Daily” this time because I’m starting the album a week before December (I did my first documenting yesterday). I decided to do this so I can capture Thanksgiving too. Also, there are 40 Daily Doc prompts and I want to use them!
Even though I was originally intending to just include the title and list inspired by the magazine, the paper scooted around in the typewriter a bit and so the list didn’t come out in a straight line. Time to improvise! I added in embellishments to make it look like I did that on purpose.
I then did a bit more embellishing to create a visual triangle. Sometimes mistakes can inspire you to make something even better than what you were originally planning!
I’m decorating my wood cover today and I’ll share it, along with my base, as soon as I’m done! The first page is coming your way soon, too.
Go check out the team takes to see how others got inspired by magazines and to get inspired yourself!
