One of our favorite family Autumn traditions is heading up to The Red Barn Farm (almost) every year. Red Barn Farm is a working pumpkin and apple farm with a bunch of cute farm animals to visit. So of course, the kids love it. And it’s way more fun than just picking out a pumpkin at the market. Plus, the drive out there as the trees are starting to change colors is simply gorgeous.
Jonas and Eliza loved checking out the turkeys, chickens, lambs, pigs, donkeys and goats. But the star of the show was the ponies.
Both kids went on their very first pony rides! Eliza was super impressed with the horse names: hers was named “Scout” (which she keeps telling people is a character from one of my favorite books) and Jonas’s was “Soda Pop.” I’m sure no one is surprised that daredevil Jonas rode one handed the whole time.
Even thought they thought the ponies were really cool, they had the most fun jumping off hay by far.
Jonas is exhausting (I felt like I had spent the whole day lifting weights when I woke up the next morning), so we skipped the hay ride to pick pumpkins from the patch and found four great ones, along with a butternut squash, from the already-selected ones at the front. We can’t wait to dig into them!
