This week I’m participating in Ali Edwards’s Week in the Life, an in-depth weekly documentation project. I’m taking lots of photos and writing lots of words each day this week, focusing on a single family member each of the first four days, and then I’ll make a spread for each day to put in my Project Life album. Here’s Saturday.
The kids spent the night with their grandparents Saturday night, so Sunday was for sleeping in. I woke up at about 10:00, kissed Jake and left him to sleep more, and went downstairs to work and drink coffee in the quiet. I answered questions on the Project Life Lessons message boards and blogged a bit. Jake woke up about a half and hour after I did. It was so nice for both of us to catch up on sleep.
Jake woke up and was pumped to go check out our brick problem right off the bat. He took out a test brick to see what we’re working with behind the wall.
The verdict is that we’ll have to take off the whole wall and rebuild rather than repoint (which is taking out mortar and adding new mortar without taking out the bricks). The nails that were supposed to hold the bricks to the wood wall behind them (which is the part that’s structurally important) worked their way out, and that’s what’s been pushing out the wall. Jake planned and researched more; we’re all set to DIY this project next weekend.
I looked at the wall with him a bit and then tended the garden.
We came back inside, and I went back to working while Jake video chatted with his dad about the wall and said good morning to the kids. Jake headed off to Home Depot to grab the rest of the wall supplies, and I kept working.
Rita brought the kids home just in the nick of time to get Eliza ready for soccer practice.
Jonas was sleeping, so Jake brought him in with the carseat and let him finish napping right in there.
Rita brought us a big tarp for the wall and some clothes that she picked up for Jonas at a garage sale, because she’s awesome.
Jake took Eliza to soccer practice. They worked on passing, mostly.
I kept working until Jonas woke up, then we took a walk around the corner to the farmer’s stand there on weekends. I’m so thankful that these awesome folks are there, and try to get something from them every week. It’s so nice to have that option for the weekends we can’t make it to the big farmer’s market.
We got potatoes, cantaloupe, apples, pears, and tomatoes. All that for about twenty bucks.
Jonas and I stopped for a latte and hot chocolate before walking back home. Coffeeshops are my favorite place to be after home.
Jonas played with dinosaurs when we got home. I love listening to his little pretend conversations between them.
Charcoal follows me everywhere and thought that me getting on the floor to take pictures of Jonas was the perfect opportunity to tackle me for some snuggles.
After Jake and Eliza got back, Eliza took a shower and then we went out to release the butterfly Eliza raised from a caterpillar. We’ll have more on that later.
We explored for more bugs after she flew away.
The kids and Jake hung out downstairs for awhile, so I put the finishing touches on the Project Life layout I’d been working on and went outside to take pictures of it.
My desk mid-project.
I came back in to find Eliza reading the current Lego catalogue.
Jonas was “reading” books too, and Jake was researching more about brick masonry.
Jake and I started making dinner together (Eliza took this picture).
E switched to reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid while we cooked.
Then she switched to recording a silly vlog post. She loves playing with the camera on our phones.
We sat down to eat breakfast burritos and talked.
Jonas and I read books in my bed, then I tucked him in. Jake put Eliza in bed.
Jake called me out to the front porch, where a neighborhood kitty was waiting for some love. She was super sweet, and I snuggled and fed her. We found out that she lives a few houses down, so I’m sure she’ll come back for future visits.
Our friend Matt came over to talk for awhile, and Jonas snuck out of bed. We let him stay outside for awhile to play with a flashlight and love up on the kitty (“Kitty LOVES me!”) before saying goodnight to Matt and sending Jonas back to bed.
Paul came back to stay his last night here after moving his stuff to his new place, and we all watched an episode of Orange is the New Black. Jake fell asleep at the end. I read some before bed, then lights out!
That was Sunday at the Nerd Nest!
