Autumn is officially here and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Fall is my favorite. I love the in season food. I love sweater weather. I love the smell of it. I love the sound of leaves crunching under my feet. But most of all, I love that it inspires me to make stuff. Here are some of my favorite Autumn made things from the Nerd Nest’s past that I’m excited to give a go in some form or another this season:
I loved making these Autumn Headband DIYs and even though I’m over wearing headbands, they still make fun pins or decorations. I’m thinking about whipping some of these up for an Autumn garland or slipping one into a Project Life pocket.
I’m looking forward to making many, many loaves of Pumpkin Bread with little chef Jonas this year. Also, roasted pumpkins are super easy: there’s no need to ever buy canned pumpkin in Fall, I promise.
These Cotton Swab and Ball Skeletons were a hit with Eliza last year and this year I’ll be leading her whole second grade class in making them for the holiday party at her school.
These Honey Vanilla Carmel Apples were so delicious, but this year we’re just going to make dip instead of trying to coat the apples. Way easier to make and eat.
Last year we made DIY costumes Harry Potter style, this year we need to go to the drawing board again. We were all going to dress up as Star Wars characters (funny story: my desire for Leia buns had a big part in choosing the date for Megan Goes Bald for Breasts), but now Eliza and Jake have Doctor Who blinders on. So Eliza might be Rose and Jake might be Ten. Jonas and I might fall in with those two, or we might do an Anakin / Leia thing. Undecided.
One of my favorite fall recipes is Rachel Ray’s Creamy Chicken Apple Chili. I’m making it this week, in fact! Apples in chili might sound weird, but trust me on this one. It’s delicious.

I’m not much for holiday decorating because I’d rather focus my crafting energy on things I can use all year round, but this One Sew Pennant Banner solves the problem: it’s easy to swap out different themes of stuff!
What are you excited to make this Fall?
