Eliza is a Second Grader!

It may be hard to believe, but this girl got on the bus for her first day of second grade yesterday! She was all ready to go with her brand new backpack (the one we bought her in kindergarden was finally shot), a snack for her class (the joy of having a last name that begins with “A”), new uniform clothes because she FINALLY got bigger, and no school supplies (because they were waiting for her on her desk–her school has a cool service that just ships everything a teacher picks to the school). We were miraculously ready to go before the bus came and I went out to take her traditional first day photos.

She was super excited. She was disappointed some of her friends weren’t in her new class, so she was hoping her bus friends were still on her route (they were). She was also excited to see what her new teacher is like. We met her earlier in the week at Back to School Night

Speaking of Back to School Night, her new classroom is across the hall from her old one, and her teacher from last year was so excited to see her that he picked her up and spun her around. And then told her that he’s changing all of her grades to failing so she has to stay with him one more year because she’s not quite ready to move on. That may be partially true, because he’ll be a hard act to follow. He is awesome.

Jonas watched the excitement from inside: he was only in a diaper (as usual), so he couldn’t come out. He can’t wait for HIS bust to come someday.

She reported that her first day went really well. We could tell she totally missed talking in French all day (Eliza’s school is French immersion), because she swapped over to talking to us in French a lot the last few days of break, which she doesn’t usually do during the school year. The only thing she didn’t like was having to wait until the end of the day to put her new supplies in her desk, because that’s the part she was most excited about! She even said that having to wait to do that made recess seem boring at first. She is her mother’s child, for sure.

Here’s to a great second grade year for Eliza!

Do you have kids in school? Is their first day coming up?
