Day in the Life // July

This year I’m playing along with Ali Edward’s Day in the Life. At the end of each month, I’ll be documenting our routine.

This month’s Day in the Life happened to be while we’re on vacation, so you get a peek into what a day is like while we’re at Table Rock Lake! This also means that everything is in phone photos (not chancing getting our big camera wet). I also left out a bunch of photos in this post that will go in the books, because I don’t figure our extended family really wants a bunch of blown up photos of them in swimsuits on the blog. Just a hunch. We’re still on blog vacation, so this is a quick, unedited version.

Here’s July 31!

Morning: No one told Jonas that you’re supposed to sleep in on vacation, and he woke up (noisily) at 7:30. My MIL Rita (“Abba” to the kids) was awake too, and we sat on the balcony overlooking the lake for awhile with him. I did some yoga stretches, Jonas yelled, and I ended up going back in to sleep until 10:30 or so. Because Rita rocks, obviously. After everyone (which in the condo where we were staying included Tim & Rita, us and the kids, Jake’s little brother Corbin, and his girlfriend Kati) got up and moving, there was a bunch of couch-potatoing and then trying to work a little bit on the balcony, because that’s the only place the super spotty Internet would even kind of come through. I brought a book to read while things were loading. Jake’s dad Tim was out there with me, looking up morning news on his iPad. Rita made everyone brunch, and we lazed about reading, watching TV, playing with toys, and playing video games. Rita made about 25 sandwiches to take on the boat. Everyone else started getting ready to go out on the boat at about 2:00 or so.

Afternoon: Jake and Corbin went down first to fill up the boat with gas. Everyone else packed up the coolers and the kids and went down to the dock. The owner of the dock feeds turtles twice a day and has turtle snacks you can purchase, and there were about 11 of them visible at any given time! Giving the turtles snacks was Jonas and Eliza’s absolute favorite part, they were so close. There were all different sizes and different patterns, so the kids gave the different turtles names. Also, we all kept a death grip on Jonas on the dock until we got his life jacket on him.

Tim drove the boat to Cow’s Cove, which is a quiet little cove that is totally awesome. There we hooked up with extended family (Rita’s sister Chris and her family went too!) and hung out chatting, reading (for me, anyway), swimming, eating, throwing balls, and enjoying the gorgeous view. I also love that Allie was texting me Inspiration Vacation updates so I could stay in the loop.

Evening: Then we handed over the kids to the other boat, and captain Jake took the young ones (me, Corbin & Kati, and cousins Maddie & Bernie) out to go tubing. Jake is way more rough driving than Tim is driving. Instead of getting to do tricks, I could barely hold on for my life!

We started to go back to the condo and stopped to watch the sun set. Jake was playing with Jonas and Jonas knocked his glasses into the water. Which sucks SO MUCH, because Jake couldn’t see well for the rest of the trip. He was using the camera on his phone to be able to walk around and see better, which was pretty funny.

Tim and Rita made everyone tacos and burritos, which were delicious. I tried to join in on the Pajama Party, but the Internet was not having the video.

We all winded down, which included me reading every book we brought to Jonas. Adorable.

That’s a day in the life over here. Did you do a day in the life? Share a link if you did!
