Use scraps to weave a cool layout background! by Megan Anderson

This week’s challenge over at Document Life Workshop is to Make a Scrap Collage Background! I had fun using up my scraps to make a page about one of Eliza’s soccer games.

Use scraps to weave a cool layout background! by Megan Anderson

I decided to use up the scraps I have left from my (almost gone) Yes Please Amy Tangerine Collection Pack and a bit from Dear Lizzy paper. American Crafts papers have a coordinating strip on the bottom of them, and I thought I’d weave them to make a fun background! I’ve been wanting to do a weaved background since I saw this layout with a weaved ribbon background in 2007, but haven’t found the right project. Six years later (!!!) and I finally did.

To “weave” the background strips, I started with the horizontal row and laid my Neon Omnigrip No Slip Ruler next to my layout. I adhered just the left ends of each strip every two inches, starting one inch from the top of the layout. Then I started sliding in the vertical strips, working from left to right. Slip the vertical strips over and under the horizontal strips. I like the motion of doing this, it’s like a wave. With each vertical strip, alternate starting over or under. I used a ruler as a guide with the vertical strips too.

After I adhered down the weaved background and matted photo, I filled in each of the squares with a punched circle of more scraps.

There’s more info on her “first game” page I’ve yet to share, so I just wanted to use this page to highlight that photo (blowing up iPhone photos for the win) and write a few little bits about how soccer is going. The punched circles were great little journaling blocks! They were a cute home for a few brads too!

So happy that my scrap pile is a little lighter and I got such a cute result! Get challenged yourself and see the other team take over at Document Life Workshop now!
