This year I’m playing along with Ali Edward’s Day in the Life. On the last day of each month, I’ll be documenting our routine.
I tried to edit down my documenting yesterday, so this is just a peak into the day. I didn’t try to document everything that happened. I did this in anticipation of the million photos that we will take tomorrow for Eliza’s birthday party; I don’t want to end up with five inserts for Project Life Week 9.
We started off the day rushed. We have three alarms in the morning, but two of them didn’t get set because our routine was broken by all of the snow days. And I pushed snooze one too many times. Eliza made it onto the bus with plenty of time to spare, but I didn’t remember to pick up the camera until she was already on the bus.
Jake and Jonas sat down together for their morning cereal. I usually sit with them and drink coffee at this point, but I forgot to buy filters. I tried using a paper towel but apparently that makes the coffee taste like paper towels. Go figure.
Jake left for work, but not before collecting tons of hugs and kisses.
Jonas and I were really lazy in the morning (I had a caffeine headache). I had greek yogurt, granola, and blueberries for breakfast. We watched cartoons, he took a bath, we played, and we did some cleaning. Nothing too exciting. We had leftover chicken apple chili for lunch.
I also worked on organizing / cleaning off my work table. I slipped my 30 Days of Lists base pages into my Project Life binder and collected all of my #30List supplies into a Cropper Hopper Paper File. Love having everything all together.
I usually do yoga and work during Jonas’s nap, but Poppy (my grandpa) showed up right as Jonas went down. He usually pops in once a week or so just to visit. We talked and sipped tea for a few hours and he hung out with Eliza when she got home.
She was uncharacteristically talkative and snuggly. She flipped through Little House in the Big Woods with Poppy and summarized the chapters I’ve read to her so far. I’m amazed at how many of the details she remembers.
Our E-Cloth Home Cleaning Set came in the mail and Eliza was excited to wash ALL of the first floor windows. And other stuff. Our house has never been this clean. I’m sure that, once the new-product excitement wears off, that will go to the wayside.
Jonas woke up from his nap after Poppy left, and the kids spent a lot of time running around being crazy, helping clean, and having light saber battles (everything is a light saber to Jonas right now). They had graham crackers and bananas for a snack.
I talked to my bestie Harvey for about a half an hour while the kids played and I cleaned.
I needed to get dinner ready super fast (I usually don’t start until Jake gets home because Jonas is really crazy this time of day), so I popped on an episode of Kipper while I cut veggies. This is how they chose to watch.
I wanted to collect the Instagrams into one photo collage, so these are a bit out of order in respect to the other photos.
Here’s what’s going on in them:
E-Cloth Home Cleaning Set // A run to UPS. The kids and Jake ate Italian Sausage with Potatoes and Peppers without me. I had to ship a vintage Marx dollhouse to France, and I also sent out the second-to-last book journal. // The plaza looked so pretty and magical with everything all snow topped. // I stopped by Office Max to get yellow printer ink, then our local grocery store for the naughty things we can’t get at Trader Joe’s. I was mostly going for coffee filters and milk, but of course I forgot the milk in true Megan style. This is why lists are important. // Monsoon Wedding. // Reading Hamlet before bed & snuggling with Charcoal.
When I got back home I heated up the plate Jake made for me, and the kids did getting-ready-for-bed stuff. Eliza read Jake a book while I was gone, and I read a few Little House chapters to her.
After the kids were in bed, I watched Monsoon wedding next to Jake while he worked on a coding project. I usually work at this time too, but I needed a mental break. And a bubble bath. Those are rad.
I did yoga at night since I didn’t get to it during Jonas’s nap. I did my first practice from memory (Rodney Yee annoys Jake–blasphemy!). I liked doing it from memory; I have the daily routine memorized by now. And it gave me a chance to hold poses longer. I went 10 minutes longer than the video exercise I use without even realizing it.
Had to get in a few cat photos. Charcoal follows me everywhere.
And Lily is a jerk. I hardly ever see her, it’s a miracle she just happened to run past when I had the camera out. She’s a temporary house guest and she obviously can’t wait until this summer when she can move the heck away from us. (I kid, but only kind of.)
Then we read in bed (me from books, Jake on the computer) and snuggled up under one million blankets because it is freezing here!
That’s a day in the life over here. Did you do a day in the life? Share a link if you did!
