Burgers!

Sunday we accidentally had burgers twice. Oops! We meant to have brunch at City Diner before going to the City Market, but we had a bit of a monetary mix-up. City Diner is cash only, as is the farmer’s market (obviously) and we had a bit of trouble at the ATM. Jake’s debit card expired without our knowledge (he has a new one he forgot to activate) and I don’t know the pin number for mine (I really really can’t remember numbers. I even have trouble with my social security number.) Luckily, our friend Matt was with us, so we borrowed some money from him so we could buy stuff at the farmer’s market to keep from having to drive back home to get my pin number. We wanted to spend the money on farmer’s market food and not lunch, so we ended up at Carollo’s (an Italian grill / grocer in the market) getting burgers. I don’t know if you needed that whole story, but that sort of misadventure mix-up is typical for us. We then had dinner at my dad’s, which happened to be burgers and picnic food. So it goes.

City Market Haul

That was our city market haul up there, in case you were wondering.

Brisket

Monday was a big family dinner at our house with my mom’s side of the family. I made Brisket (from this cookbook) for the first time. I wish I had gotten a bigger one; I didn’t know it would cook down so much! Either way, it was delicious. Also, nothin’ better than a crock pot recipe so you can clean before company comes instead of cook. (Did I mention that our house is always a mess?)

Creamy Chicken Penne

Tuesday was Creamy Chicken Penne. I was going to post a recipe, but it wasn’t exactly steller. I’ll wait until we improve it to post anything.

Freckled Egg

Wednesday was cheese, turkey, and spinach omelets with country fried potatoes. It might be Jonas’s favorite thing right now: he’ll eat tons and tons of anything with eggs.

Chicken Pot Pie

Thursday was cold and rainy, so we swapped the menu around to make Chicken Pot Pie. Perfect for that sort of day! It’s one of our favorites.

McCoy's

Friday we actually went out with friends! We’re sort of hermits, if you haven’t noticed. We handed the kids over to my dad and had dinner at McCoys before going to see Sleepwalk with Me. Pictured up there is the beef brisket dip, which has smoked brisket, onion straw things, and barbecue jus. It’s amazing; I’ll be on a mission to learn to make it soon.

Creamy Chicken Apple Chili

Saturday we had Creamy Chicken Apple Chili, which wasn’t even on the menu at all, but we went grocery shopping for next week on Thursday, so we moved it up because of the weather. We’re officially in Autumn food mode.

Smoothies

We also made smoothies from bananas, yogurt, frozen berries, and spinach. You can’t taste the spinach in the smoothies; it’s a great way to sneak in veggies. The kids like drinking their food groups more than eating them, for some reason. I also learned that Jonas likes to eat frozen blueberries, but not fresh ones. I wonder what other frozen fruits I can get him to eat?
