Sunday, we went to the KC Maker Faire, which is nerd heaven. We were very happy to see such wonders as our favorite Star Wars characters,
cool gizmos with switches and levers and big red buttons you’re actually encouraged to push,
super strong magnets,
DIY steam-punk aficionados,
handmade motorcycles based on ’50s toys,
cute robots that walk right up to our cute toddler,
3D printers (man, do we want one of those!),
Tesla coils (Though I have to admit that I was REALLY upset that I missed the big Tesla coil; we got split up and Jake thought that’s where I’d be, so he got to see it and I didn’t. Boo.),
basketball playing robot competitions,
really cool Lego sculptures,
mechanical fairies and centaurs,
and so many cool booths willing to give our cute, openly nerdy daughter tons of swag. The Spiderman booth was just giving out tiny posters, but once she told them what a big Spiderman fan she was, they gave her a full sized movie poster. She’s beyond ecstatic about that.
Jake went without the rest of the nest last year, but this is without a doubt going to be a yearly family tradition from now on. Because, in case you didn’t know, science is awesome.
