The last time these girls were in town (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3), we had a blast. This Memorial Day weekend, my best friend Jessica and her Denver posse Jackii and Stef (and this time Stef’s boyfriend Justin) stayed with us for a few days and experienced more of the best of Kansas City.
They got in early Saturday morning and, after napping, we took the kids to their grandparents’ for the weekend and set off for an adventure. We headed to Union Station to go to Science City first.
We go to Science City with the kids all of the time (we won a membership last year), but we don’t ever go just with grown-ups. It’s definitely different: noticing that my boobs were touching the Plasma Ball, giggling, and taking pictures… that never would have happened with the little ones there, for one.
After playing in Science City for hours, we took the Link (a covered bridge walkway that connects Union Station to Crown Center). I’d live in a 500 square foot condo if I could have that view.
We then visited the toy shop of the Legoland Discovery Center.
It was pretty cool in there, but we were disappointed that there weren’t any Harry Potter Lego sets that we don’t already have. We need to buy up the ones that we want and hide them for E’s future birthdays and Christmases before they’re completely discontinued.
We’re also pretty excited that they have Marvel superhero themed sets now. Hopefully there will be some Spiderman sets for her when the reboot movie comes out (Spiderman is her favorite character ever).
Then we walked to Grinders for some chili bomb pizza (pizza with chili cheese tater tots on it–sounds disgusting, is amazing). The owner, STRETCH, was giving an interview while we were there. That was pretty cool to listen to.
We did some more city walkin’ and stopped to take pictures with some awesome graffiti.
Saturday night I made Caribbean Jerk Rub chicken wraps for everyone and we ended up with a house party. Our friend Matt joined in, and our friend Steve came too. We were up until 3:00 AM, which is totally fine when there’s no Jonas to wake us up at 7:00 the next morning. It was a night filled with laughter and conversation, which is our favorite kind of night. We love our friends.
Stay tuned for Part 2!
