*An explanation of Week in the Life and the free download for the Days of the Week words can be found here.
Today it was a so super nice outside! It was Spring-y in the morning, but felt like Summer once the sun was high in the sky. Jake left a little earlier than usual and took the scooter to work so that I wouldn’t have to drive him. I needed a car today and we’ve only got one.
That little chair in the entryway is the parking spot for Eliza as she’s waiting for the bus.
It’s just me and Jonas now. I write a to-do list while he eats breakfast next to me.
Charcoal supervises. He’s a super lovey dovey kitty and is always in the same room as me, unless he’s fallen into too deep a sleep to realize I’ve changed spaces.
Pretended to be done with breakfast, snuck a bit of croissant out of his highchair with him. I watch Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog in the background, Jonas runs and runs, but pays attention to the movie when they sing. And then he dances. This dude loves music.
Jonas loves peeking outside from my desk. He’s in this spot in a jiffy if he hears any big truck noises.
Riding his pirate ship, ball in the masthead. He really loves that balls will stay in there and not roll away.
Sort of nap time. I put Jonas down at 10:00 even though I know I’ll have to wake him back up at 10:30 to leave. The messy drafting table is calling. Jake and I have computer desks facing each other with a drafting table in between in our office. What’s on the drafting table changes depending on who is working on what project. This is what it looks like mid-Project Life.
Working on Week 16, still in my p.j.’s.
I take a quick shower and sun dress up. I’m a pajamas or jeans and t-shirts girl. I think that not having to wear real clothes comes in at number two on the perks list of working at home after the number one of getting to hang with my little guy all day. But I’ve learned that summers in Kansas City are hot, and if you’re going to be walking around a lot, jeans aren’t going to cut it. I hate shorts, so I wear dresses when it’s hot outside and I need to actually leave the house. I feel uncomfortable in them.
I wake Jonas up from his nap and we go to a barbecue with Jake’s team and some of their kids and spouses on his work campus. Jonas gets to play with two little boys and two other babies. There were THREE other babies that didn’t make it! And a bunch of school kids. Jake’s is a fertile team, which makes these gatherings really fun. The photo above and the one below are by Jake’s awesome photographer friend at work, Qian. We’re super jealous of his camera equipment.
And how epic is this photo of Jonas by Qian? He looks like a football star. And not the American kind. Manchester United Sports Illustrated spread, here Jonas comes.
Jake took this photo of me. For some reason, I didn’t get any good ones of him. Jonas had fun throwing balls and fetching with the babies and we ate yummy picnic food.
Even though it was noon when we left Jake’s work and Jonas still hadn’t gotten to take a nap, I asked Luck to be a lady and took Jonas to my favorite antique store on the way home. It’s four stories of pure awesome in there. It was perfect: he was too tierd to want to run around and break stuff, but not tired enough to get all cranky.
We used to live in the same neighborhood as this store, and let me tell you, that was super dangerous!
We head through Downtown to Midtown, where we live.
Back home. Jonas goes straight to his crib for a nap.
After Eliza gets home from school, she has a snack and watches an episode of My Little Pony. She likes to kick back for a minute right when she gets home, and then she’s running and playing with Jonas and coloring and talking my ear off.
I forgot to schedule the USPS pick up for today, so we head to the post office to drop off pre-paid packages. I’ll bet my post office is prettier than yours!
After work Jake stops to see his brother Nick, who lives a few minutes away from us in the heart of Downtown.
Jake got some good city shots. We both love tall buildings so much. I don’t know what it is, but they make my heart swell.
The view from Nick’s rooftop.
More of Downtown.
My sister and her friend came over to hang out. Taylor showed me her prom dress. I forgot to take photos.
When Jake got home, we were already eating dinner. It was almost bedtime for the kids. We had Mexican Chicken (I’ll share the recipe later today).
Our friend Matt and his dog Pav came over and had dinner with us too. Jonas’s favorite word right now is “puppy”, and he was so excited to get to point at Pav and call him “puppy!” over and over. Jonas tried to grab Pav’s head to get some kisses, which was super cute. I only got blurry photos, but it was a cute moment so I’m using the blurry ones and moving on.
Jake put Jonas to bed, Eliza took a shower, I read Eliza books in her room before she went to bed, and Matt, Jake and I sat on the front porch and talked. I popped inside periodically to edit photos. Matt’s brother Jonathan came over too; they left at about midnight. Jake and I watched a short video about experiments on the difference between the functions of the right and left brain hemisphere in bed on his laptop and then we fell fast asleep. I was too tired to read, which only happens about once a month.
That was our Wednesday! How was yours?
