We’ve got a lot of collections around here, and it seems that Eliza inherited the collecting gene from her mama. She wants to collect everything: from specimens for her microscope to Lalaloopsies, everything seems better in larger quantities.
On the parenting front, it’s a bit hard to balance encouraging collecting and teaching her to be thankful and satisfied for what she does have. It takes a lot of talking, that’s for sure. That aside, Eliza’s most proud of her largest collection: Pez.
At last count, E had amassed about 50 “Pez Droppers”, as she calls Pez dispensers. They come from everywhere. Her grandparents get them for her at holidays, she sometimes gets a vintage one at a thrift or antique store for being especially well-behaved, and we keep a few in her reward bowl at home (we’ll explain the reward bowl thing later this week).
They range in theme from Princesses to Superheroes, which sums Eliza up pretty well. Eli uses them mostly for decoration, but when she plays with them, it’s pretty darn funny to hear her scenarios of how C3PO, Cinderella, the Easter Bunny, a skeleton, and Hulk all got into the same room.
Her favorites are new Spiderman and Hulk dispensers and vintage Leia and C3PO dispensers.
They’re all lined up on the molding above her windows and closet door. She still has her bedroom door to cover and plenty of room in between the ones she has now: I’m pretty sure she’ll outgrow Pez before we have to cut her off.
What did you collect when you were a kid?
