Before I say anything else about this page, full disclosure: this layout is totally scraplifted. You can see the inspiration page (and several others) here on Ali Edward’s blog. I’m not usually a big scraplifter (I’ll take small inspirations from layouts but rarely use an entire layout design). But I’m trying something new. I’d like more photos and more stories on my pages, and my “slap it on” style doesn’t always do that. Ali Edwards is the queen of focusing on the words + photos, so I’ll be using her as heavy inspiration for awhile. Until I get used to focusing on stories rather than photos and products.
(Scraplifting is a great way to test out different styles until you’ve settled into your own.)
I wanted to scrapbook a specific story, but didn’t have a photo to go with it. So I just picked photos that were taken near the date of the moment I wanted to record. I chose photos that helped illustrate the relationship that the photos focus on. Try starting with a story you want to tell instead of a photo you love.
Journaling: Jonas just learned to wave, and he used his new found talent to do the cutest thing ever: tell Daddy how excited he was that he was home. Jonas & I were swinging on the front porch, and J. started to wave when Daddy pulled up. When Jake got to Jonas, Jonas clapped and opened his arms wide for a hug. Heart melting, for sure. P. S. He said, “Da da!” too. Sept 2011
I knew I wanted a big, bold font for the title, but the letter stickers I had weren’t working. The dark, dull navy didn’t fit with the layout. And I only had one “L”. But I made it work. I painted each letter with a brighter blue paint and dusted each with glitter. And the extra “L”? If you look closely, you can see a little line in the leg of the second “L”. That’s because it used to be a “T”.
