I decided to challenge myself a little bit for this layout. I wanted to complete an entire layout during one of Jonas’ nap times from start to finish. This meant limiting my choices.

A Little Bit of Magic

For patterned paper, I decided I was only allowed to use scraps (this is scrapbooking, after all!). I knew this would be easy for a page about Eliza – most of my scraps are pretty girly.

I store scraps by size- pages that have at least one side 12 inches (including thin boarder pieces), medium chunks, and tiny bits that I use as embellishments.

For this page, I went through my stash of large papers to choose the background. I found one paper sized relatively 12×12 with several large chunks cut out. I chose another larger paper that had a tame enough pattern to hold my journaling to cover the missing parts on the bottom of the layout and a scalloped paper from my medium scrap stash. The yellow glitter photo mat and circle were also from my medium scrap stash. Here’s what the back looks like:

You can see the spots that needed covering. Don’t be afraid to use papers that aren’t exactly whole. Make it work!
To keep my time, I also limited myself to using one line for the embellishments. The Dear Lizzy Enchanted Collection worked perfectly with my magic theme and the girly feel of my layout. I also cheated a little and grabbed the bag of embellishments from a Pink Ninja Addicts scrapbooking kit I bought on Etsy awhile back.

A Little Bit of Magic - Close Up

To make my title pop, I outlined the letter stickers with a marker to make them stand out from the patterned background. The sides of the dimensional stickers were white, making them purple added a splash of color in addition to making the letters stand out.

All of the journaling was taken from this post. Eliza loved how the page turned out, she said it felt just as magical as the Tooth Fairy is! I’m glad to do the fairy justice.

How do you challenge yourself when you don’t have a ton of time to create?
