Take a walk with us through our neighborhood. One of the first places we’ll take you is Jerusalem Bakery, a yummy and wallet friendly Mediterranean restaurant just two blocks West of our house in Kansas City, MO.
Doesn’t that just make your mouth water? Pictured is our very favorite thing at JB: a teriyaki chicken wrap combo. Yum. Sure, it is a little ridiculous to order something teriyaki in the midst of a wide array of authentic Mediterranean fare. But who could resist the combination of warm pita, perfectly spiced grilled chicken, bell peppers, and onions topped with cool lettuce and tomato and warm teriyaki sauce? Not us. We leave the yummy looking all-you-can-eat buffet alone and order our inauthentic food with plump fries.
Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that we aren’t adventurous eaters. But we like the other Mediterranean restaurant in the neighborhood (Jerusalem Cafe, which is associated with JB) better for actual Mediterranean food.
JB also has a cool retail section; we buy freshly made pita and hummus from them all of the time. We also think it is cool that they always have a Middle Eastern news channel on. Not that we speak Arabic…but it is still interesting.
We typically go to Jerusalem Bakery on a Sunday afternoon while Eliza is off at her grandparents’ and Jonas is napping.
Afterward we take a detour through the neighborhood so that we at least knock off a few of the french fry calories.
Off topic, but last week we spotted this cool tree on our walk:
The roots extended out at least ten feet!
Tree vs. sidewalk… we have a feeling the tree will win.
